FMC Explained

Introduction

The Club in its present form dates back to the summer of 1968. That first outing was to Beinn Dorain in August 1968 and set the scene on what was to become a most successful Club enabling individuals to share their desire with others to enjoy Scotland's mountain environment. In fact some Club Members actually met their spouses during these early days, the song 'love is in the air...' does perhaps spring to mind!

The first Club Member completed the Munros in October 1974 and there have been many more since then, the most recent completion being in September 2010. The administration required to organise outings and events in the early days was completetely different compared to today's easy access to the internet and the ability to communicate instantly. Sadly some of the founder members are no longer with us but the Club remaims active in the Scottish hills and mountains. Very few of the members now 'hang by their fingertips' but as one eminent 'mountain guru' suggested "there is no such thing as Scottish winter hillwalking...the activity is no less than mountaineering".

The Club has a full annual programme of day walks every two weeks and in addition several weekend and week long outings to the more remote parts of Scotland. With most of the regular members living in and around Fife, the day walks are restricted in travelling time. Nevertheless walks in Glen Etive, Glencoe etc have recently been completed during the long summer days! As a 'Club Member' of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland the FMC supports this organisation and also regularly makes donations to the John Muir Trust and Scotways.

All mountaineering and hillwalking is challenging, however some is more challenging than others!!
